This article aims to share several teaching practices developed over years of experience to counter the increasingly common phenomenon of disengagement among American students in Study Abroad Programs (SAPs) in Italy.

Specifically, the article reviews some of the causes of disengagement, examines commonly adopted solutions, and focuses on those that have been developed and refined through years of experience. These solutions emphasize cooperation with the environment surrounding the students in Italy, involving carefully planned activities and specially designed educational tools. Chief among these tools is a textbook specifically tailored to the students in the class, serving as the primary support for all teaching activities, both in and out of the classroom.

Finally, the article highlights how best practices must be supported by the Study Abroad Program itself, with which strategic goals should be shared.
