This paper aims to explore the (neglected) role of foreign language pedagogy in educating learners for global citizenship, and in particular for gender equality, diversity, and inclusion. I begin by pointing out the necessity of authenticity in foreign language pedagogy, of the development of intercultural communicative competence, and of the adoption of an intercultural/global citizenship pedagogy. Approaches integrating foreign language education and intercultural/global citizenship education bring real cogent contemporary issues into the classroom, promoting community engagement and active citizenship.
